Team Gym

TeamGym is one of Basingstoke Gymnastics Club's most successful areas. The club is a force to be reckoned with in the TeamGym world and has been winning British titles since 2000 and competing internationally since 2002.

What is TeamGym?

As the name suggests, TeamGym is a team discipline for either women's, men's or mixed teams. Teams can have a minimum of 6 gymnasts and up to a maximum of 12 gymnasts. Each team competes on three gymnastic apparatus:

1. Floor (choreographed team routine)
2. Trampette / Trampette Vault
3. Tumbling

All three require effective team work, excellent technique in the elements and spectacular acrobatic elements. TeamGym competitions generate an excellent spirit and atmosphere and are attractive and exciting for spectators.

TeamGym is ideal for enthusiastic, talented gymnasts who are looking to take their gymnastics further (without training the hours some other disciplines demand) and compete within the camaraderie of a team.

Squads

We currently have over 30 gymnasts in the TeamGym squads. There are gymnasts training at Primary level (8-12 years), Junior level (13-17 years) and Senior level (16 years plus)
The junior/senior gymnasts train 9 hours a week and the primary gymnasts train 8 hours a week. The coaching team consists of:
Claire Williams (Head of Teamgym)
Janet Allabush (Honorary National Teamgym Coach)
David Cahill
Assisted by Abbie McCombe

Competitions

The European TeamGym Championships are the pinnacle of any TeamGym gymnast's career as it is the highest level of international competition. The competition takes place every other year and Basingstoke senior mixed team have reached the finals of the competition 4 times. In 2006 and 2010 the team finished in 4th place, the best-ever finishes by any British team.

Throughout the years, we have won many regional, national and international medals with our primary, junior and senior teams. We have won 7 British titles since 2000, with the most recent being the Junior Girls in 2011.
